Our mission statement
For a long time, there was a shortage of high-quality materials available for overworked teachers and their long-suffering but very keen students. Exam Boards stuffed their syllabuses full of every conceivable topic whilst ignoring the practical considerations; how much time was available to teach topics, the extra exams that students had to sit, the stresses of huge amounts of coursework on both students and staff, the lack of training available for computing teachers to teach the more obscure topics and the lack of time for training, the lack of really good text books and other materials to teach this subject.
There was a real danger that students would vote with their feet and pick A Level subjects that were definitely easier to pass; subjects where a greater percentage get good grades. You only have to look at the AS and A2 Computing results for all Exam Boards to see how poorly students were doing.
This is where we came in. As a highly successful Head of IT, I set the company’s goal: produce the highest quality materials that would enable teachers to teach exactly what the Exam Boards demanded. I wanted to produce web-based materials that would engage students as well as be supported by a comprehensive textbook. I wanted materials that would encourage students to learn independently and gauge their own progress. I wanted materials that could be used in class by a teacher as a class text. In addition, I wanted some specialist workbooks to help teachers teach some of the more difficult topics to their students in a step-by-step interactive fashion.
After three years, I am delighted that this company has been able to reach out to hundreds of schools in the UK and also abroad. Our Intranet site and textbooks have now been used by thousands of students to get the highest grades for themselves. We will continue to focus only on the core aim of our company: providing high quality materials for pre-university computing students and their teachers and we will continue to develop our materials to meet this aim.
